Shawan town Shakeng village is one of the "Folk art township of Guangdong Province", which is famous for its lion. The origin of Shawan's lion is in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, dating back over300 years of history. The Shakeng government has set every eighth day of the first lunar month as "Shakeng lion lettuce Festival", which attracting people from all over the world to learn the skills from each other.

The Shakeng's lion association has a hundred years of history. During some significant festivals, they will perform the lion show, which attract the people nearby come to visit. Especially during the spring festival, they specially invite the lion teams from Nanhai and Shunde to perform the lion show. Their performances are multifarious, in which the lettuce association, Longmenqing, Qiaodiqing are comparatively famous. The performances called lions celebrating new year is performed on the stakes. Various kinds of lions dance and jumps, they are fierce on the stakes but lissome during dance. The scene is thrilling and really dizzying.
